In loving memory
Helen Weintraub
I want people to think of Helen Weintraub as a Saint. Perhaps a very unorthodox, stubborn, and stern Saint, but a Saint nevertheless. When the family needed someone to endure lifelong commitments, she devoted her entire life to those commitments to ensure her family would carry on. She did it not out of a feeling of obligation, but as an act of pure love for her family. She adopted her orphaned nephew and became the ultimate caregiver for her mother.
Many knew Helen Weintraub, but most didn’t see through her tough external persona. Inside was always a beautifully complex, loving, caring, amazing human being. One that I am proud to have called my mother. Her task wasn’t an easy one. I was the toughest of children, but she never gave up. Even when it looked like I was destined for failure, she still never gave up.
I am so grateful that in her final years, I was able to express my gratitude for all that she had done for me. I am so grateful that she got to spend time with her two grandchildren that she loved so very much. And I am so grateful for our New England road trips when she would visit.
Helen Weintraub was taken from us too soon. She was taken so suddenly by surprise. While she may be gone, what she did, what she invested her very being into, lives on in her son and her grandchildren. Helen Weintraub finishes her journey walking in the same auspicious path as her parents, ensuring the family lives on strong. In the end, may I do as good for the family.
